The very first Loud Movie Demo Night took place between Christmas and New Years 2023 for a group of family and friends of the core team. Preparing for this demo followed what is quickly becoming a mantra for us: “try it, see if it works”. With only a handful of films, a small PA system, and no pre-programmed lights, this demo was a trial balloon of sorts – a quick test to see if Loud Movies are worth pursuing any further. In the hours before the demo, Allen and Andy determined a few lighting cues that could work for each movie, which Allen manually triggered during the demo.

While rudimentary in terms of content and experience, and technologically crude, this demo served its desired purpose: it proved that there is absolutely something magical to the Loud Movies idea, and this new medium has some serious legs.

Looking forward from here, we intend to work in 4-6 week sprints between demo nights, focusing on adding something new each time as determined in a post mortem. This first test proved that we need to focus on programming the lights next, as they are going to be a critical aspect of making Loud Movies truly immersive. This means that we now need to dive into the wide world of DMX-controlled lights and related hardware and software.
