The Loud Movies team spent 8 weeks between Demo Night #6 and this past weekend preparing the Creative Technology Center for the Fall 2024 Brewery Art Walk. This is a twice a year event wherein the public is invited to a massive open house to tour all of the creative studios at The Brewery Artist Lofts in Downtown LA. This was the first time that Loud Movies was a part of the Art Walk, and it was a shared open house with 3opolis, Alternity, and Joel Fitzpatrick Studio.
During the days of the 5th and 6th there were demos of Alternity’s dome projections featuring the talents of Michael Strauss, Joel Fitzpatrick’s volumetric LED installation, and a selection of our Loud Movies. While we were too busy hosting the demos to get an accurate headcount, there was a steady stream of hundreds of visitors both days, with some staying for multiple demos and some even coming back multiple times and even multiple days to bring friends to see what we were doing. The evening of the 5th featured a full Loud Movie demo night using headphones from our partner Sound Off. This event was hand’s-down the most successful show we have done to date, with an absolutely incredible audience reaction.
While we did not add a lot of new tech or content, we did try out a new approach for the transitions between the films, featuring voiceovers that are proving to be everyone’s favorite method of weaving a narrative and thematic thread between all of the films. We also switched from CDJ-3000 control to an XDJ-XZ all-in-one controller, which required re-tooling how we are triggering and synchronizing the video, lights, and lasers with the audio during the show. Aspects of our show control setup are now more flexible and stable, but at the cost of updates to content now taking longer and being a little more risky to do.
